Native Scottish Trees

All of our trees are cell-grown in Proptek trays, which prevents the development of circling roots and promotes lateral root development, leading to strong root balls. Our trees also leave the protection of our polytunnels as soon as possible. Our customer feedback consistently tells us our trees are strong and hardy.

We use a 100% peat-free growing media with a controlled release fertiliser. We do not use pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or other chemicals. We keep any additional feed to an absolute minimum, and when this is externally applied it is of organic origin (e.g. seaweed concentrate).

We aim to provide trees between 20-50cm as standard. The ability to do this is influenced by each individual growing season, and will vary from year to year due to increases in climate extremes and variations, and the responses of natural seed stock to this. Where growing seasons are particularly challenging for our trees, we reduce our minimum plantable size to an absolute minimum height of 10cm.

Whatever the growing season throws at us, we ensure each sapling leaving our nursery has robust root and stem diameter development. We value these two criteria over uniform plant height, and consider them to be more appropriate indicators of plant robustness. This also provides the beautiful natural variation in tree shape that would tend to be found in nature.

Our trees are supplied in biodegradable material, in bundles of ten and packed in cardboard boxes, to reduce and eliminate the use of plastic as much as possible.

We also grow larger, individually potted trees (search for the Limited Edition options for these and other special offers such as hedgerow starter packs).

We are a small nursery with limited staff capacity. Unless directly arranged with us beforehand, ALL ORDERS ARE COLLECTION ONLY.

All orders can be collected directly from the nursery (near Linlithgow) free of charge.

Orders are usually fulfilled and ready for collection within two weeks of the order being placed and paid for. This may be longer during busy periods or for particularly large orders. We will confirm a collection date with you directly.

Because we specialise in local provenance trees, please note that we only sell our trees within Scotland. We will cancel and refund any tree orders outwith Scotland.
